Dr. Sabine Dembkowski

Sabine Dembkowski

Dr. Sabine Dembkowski is a trusted board advisor. She works for and with listed companies (FTSE 100, FTSE250, FTSE350, DAX, MDAX), global organisations, Private Equity and leading Professional Service firms and the German Mittelstand.

Sabine and her Better Boards team have conducted extensive research into what makes boards more effective. Better Boards is credited for having identified the seven hallmarks of effective boards and for having developed a practical and innovative solution for taking board audits and development to the next level. The results of her board effectiveness research are peer-reviewed and published in the US, the UK and across Europe.

After studying business management in Cologne and completing a Ph.D. in Bristol (UK), Sabine worked as a management consultant in various leadership positions for A.T. Kearney and Monitor Company in London.

Driven by a passion to get down to the nuts and bolts and create real, long-lasting change in organisations, she combined her experience as a strategy consultant with the latest insights into human performance, psychology, management, and neuroscience and set up two successful businesses: The Coaching Centre and Better Boards.

Her articles appeared in publications such as Harvard Business Manager, The Corporate Board, Real Deal, Accountancy Futures, The International Journal of Mentoring & Coaching, and Business Coaching Worldwide. In addition to her research into board effectiveness, she published articles about leadership and executive coaching. Sabine has also co-authored various handbooks and standard reference works relating to these topics.

Sabine has been trained as an executive coach in the USA, the UK, and Germany. She is certified to carry out a wide range of psychometric tests and a member of the Executive Coach Team at the London Business School and European Corporate Governance Institute. Sabine lives in London.

Tangy C. Morgan MSc, CII

Tangy Morgan

Tangy C. Morgan is a Senior Advisor to the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Committee and Strategia Worldwide, Ltd. She is an insurance industry expert and senior advisor with over 35+ years of experience in the US and global markets. Tangy’s expertise includes corporate and board governance, financial services regulation, organisational resiliency, technology and diversity and inclusion, catastrophe liability underwriting, solvency, and capital modeling.

Tangy is a frequent speaker in the UK and internationally speaking on issues of board governance, the impact of technology on traditional business models and sustainability, algorithmic bias as well as diversity and inclusion. She is a mentor to several financial technology (FinTech) start-ups.  Tangy is currently a board member of Boston University Alumni Council, Boston University, InsurerCore Ltd, Ethnic Minority Foundation, Alumni Advisory Board at the College of Business at Tennessee State University.  She is also a member of the St. James’s Roundtable at Chatham House, The Royal Institute of International Affairs, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and several other academic and civic organizations in the US and UK.

In 2018, Tangy was listed as a Distinguished Alumni of both Tennessee State University and Boston University, Wintrade Woman on Boards Award, Finalist in the Financial Services at the Black British Awards and in 2019 featured in the Debevoise & Plimpton Women’s Review.

Morgan has a B.A. in Business Management from Tennessee State University, Nashville, TN in 1981 and an M.S. in Business Continuity, Security and Risk Management from Boston University in 2016. She has lived in London since 2002 and holds dual citizenship in the UK and US.

Mark Runacres

Mark Runacres

After a first career in diplomacy Mark has spent more than a decade pursuing a successful commercial/entrepreneurial path, which has featured a series of Non-Executive and Executive Board Memberships. Mark’s career in diplomacy took him to New Delhi twice ((latterly as Minister and Deputy British High Commissioner in India - 2002-2006), Paris and New York (UK Mission to the UN). In London he had stints as an FCO spokesman, Acting Head of South-East Asian Department and on loan to the Department of Trade and Industry looking after trade with Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

Mark established the Confederation of British Industry office in India and acted as their India Adviser from 2008-2015. He led the British Business Group in Delhi over the same period.

Mark is Non-Executive Chair at Sustainability Advisors, a consultancy advising on clean energy, a partner at The Hearth Education Advisory and an Associate at The Ambassador Partnership. He is also a promoter and Director of Sheffield Haworth (India), a JV in executive search. In the communications field, Mark is on the Advisory Board of AvianWE, India’s leading independent PR/Public Affairs firm, as well as Public Affairs Asia. His latest engagements are on the Advisory Boards of ASA & Associates, one of India’s leading domestic audit/advisory firms, Cognito Edge, an Indian start-up in the AI field, with a strong logistics focus, and a London-based VC player, JPIN, focused on tech collaboration between Asia and Europe. He has also served as a Non-Executive Director for a series of companies across sectors: Religare Capital Markets Ltd; G4S Corporate Services (India) Pvt Ltd; SQN Services Pvt Ltd; Mass1 Engagement Pvt Ltd; and Elara Capital (India) Pvt Ltd.

In the civil society sector, Mark is a Senior Adviser to the International Business and Diplomatic Exchange in London. He was previously an Independent Director of the Business and Community Foundation an Indian NGO focused on CSR, as well as of the FCO’s Prosperity Fund in India.

Carolyn Ferguson FCIS

Carolyn Ferguson

Carolyn Ferguson is Group Company Secretary of The Go-Ahead Group plc, with over 18 years of wide ranging board governance and pensions experience. A Fellow of ICSA: The Governance Institute, Carolyn has a proven track record of working with Boards to the highest of ethical and professional standards, supported by robust corporate governance principles. As a trusted partner of the Board, Carolyn works closely with all board members and her expertise covers the successful delivery of the Board’s evaluation and development programmes, purpose and mandate, culture agenda, risk management, composition and succession planning.  In her role as Trustee Director of Go-Ahead’s Bus Pension Scheme (formerly Secretary) she has been a driver of pensions de-risking strategy, leading projects that have included closing the defined benefit scheme, pension scheme mergers, liability management exercises and the development of investment strategy.

Carolyn is a member of Go-Ahead’s Executive Team and Diversity Steering Group and actively sponsors people, development and culture programmes across the business. As a qualified coach and mentor, she has worked with company secretaries and aspiring company secretaries across a wide range of boards and industries, and is also a member of ICSA: The Governance Institute’s Mentoring Community, supporting students as they go through their professional qualification.

Prior to working for Go-Ahead, Carolyn spent 12 years working in the energy sector, with wide-ranging responsibility for pensions.

Prof. (Dr) Colin Coulson-Thomas, President of the Institute of Management Services, has helped directors in over 40 countries to improve director, board and corporate performance. He leads the International Governance Initiative of the Order of St Lazarus, is Director-General, IOD India, UK and Europe, chair of United Learning’s Risk and Audit Committee, Chancellor and a Professorial Fellow at the School for the Creative Arts, an Honorary Professor at the Aston India Foundation for Applied Research, a Distinguished Professor and President of the Council of International Advisors at the Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management-Research, a Visiting Professor of Direction and Leadership at Lincoln International Business School, and a member of the advisory board of the Aravind Foundation and ACCA’s Governance, Risk and Performance Global Forum.

An experienced chairman of award-winning companies and vision holder of successful transformation programmes, Colin is the author of over 60 books and reports. He has held public appointments at a local, regional and national level and professorial appointments in Europe, North and South America, Africa, the Middle East, India and China. He was educated at the London School of Economics, London Business School, UNISA and the Universities of Aston, Chicago and Southern California.
